About - This presentation shows the trend of Age adjusted death rates (AADR) from the year 2003 to 2013 distributed across all US states. Nearly 75 percent of all deaths in the United States are attributed to just ten causes, with the top four of these accounting for over 50 percent of all deaths which will be visualized in this presentations.

Type of visualization - The visualization shows an interactive slideshow structure. Through 3 slides we tell a sequential story and enable the user to interact with the visualization. Each slide contains 'next' and 'previous' arrows allowing users to navigate forward and backward.

Annotations - Each slide contains text annotation depicting the data. The state chart shows annotations on the legends, with tooltip showing the state name. In bar and pie charts the number of deaths are shown as the annotation, with pie chart segregating the causes in realtime.

Parameters and Triggers - Mouse over and mouse out in the State map acts as triggers to activate the tooltip. We have also made bar chart and pie chart dependent on each other, the category chosen in pie act as a parameter filter to the bar chart and vice versa. Clickable zoom feature is also used in the state graph to zoom in the map for detailed visualization.

TOP 5 LEADING CAUSES OF DEATH IN USA:

Although due to advanced technology we see slight decline in AADR, heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S.,accounting for almost 1 in every 4 deaths. The age-adjusted rates are rates that would have existed if the population under study had the same age distribution as the "standard" population. Therefore, they are summary measures adjusted for differences in age distributions. Please take time to hover over the bars and the pie chart to see the % of each cause per year and vice versa.

US STATE CHART
This dataset represents the state wise age-adjusted death rates(AADR) for the 5 leading causes of death in the United States beginning in 2013. Data is based on information from all resident death certificates filed in the 50 states and the District of Columbia using demographic and medical characteristics. It is clearly visible that Mississipi,Oklahoma,West Virginia and Alabama have the highest AADR.
